Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Sprinkles optional
Instructions:
Start by heating the oven to 350F 175C
Put the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt in a medium-sized bowl and mix them together with a whisk
Put the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl and mix them together until they are light and fluffy
Mix the molasses, egg, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract into the butter and sugar until everything is well mixed together
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ones one at a time and mix them together until a soft dough forms
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto baking sheets that have not been greased
You can use a cookie scoop or a spoon for this
After the oven is hot, bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are set but the middle is still soft
As the cookies cool, they will keep getting firmer
Get the icing ready while the cookies cool
Mix the powdered sugar, milk, and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract in a small bowl with a whisk until the mixture is smooth
After the cookies have cooled down all the way, drizzle the icing over each one
If you want, add sprinkles
Wait until the icing is set before you serve it
If you like chewy molasses cookies with frosting, have fun
